Consumerism Photo:
While the demands for products continue to increase, production of these products must increase which leads to a handful of negative effects on the environment. These negative effects include pollution, deforestation, the destruction of the environment and ecosystems for various farms, factories, etc., and accelerated climate change. How ever we can make a change by increasing recycling, reducing materialistic possessions, and raising awareness of this issue in our community.

“Frank’s findings caught the eye of J.R.R. Tolkien and mycorrhizal fungi found their way into The Lord of the Rings” p129
I Think it is really interesting and fun when authors and directors of works of fiction can use real life “creatures” and turn them into something exaggerated, yet realistic and believable. Though this is not a mycorrhizal fungi, I think this could be used in some work of fiction and has a similar feel.

This photo was taken on the boat excursion and shows two birds on two separate buoys. Which is interesting because it shows animals using something that is man-made to their advantage.
First I have learned that our campus is much more beautiful and lively than I thought it was before. I was already under the impression that we had a beautiful campus but going on the scenic walks/trips and learning of the natural processes that occur on campus I think even higher of our campus now. Everything we learned in class this semester has shown e how intertwined everything in the environment is. One new/disastrous/etc. factor affects the entire environment from the lichen and fungi, to plants and animals. This is why it is so important for us to be conscious about our effect on the environment around us.
